I also recommend consulting the resources of the Association of the Specialty Wine Retailers http://specialtywineretailers.org/ - and even join them.

The best routes are to take to the process of creating business plans and the industry you are interested in research

I recommend you to the SBA to review an entrepreneur, start up the journal and Nolo. All 4 are excellent sources of information for the new owner or small business. I posted links for you in the source area.

Partnerships can be a good way to explore both. These organizations cover a wide range of ideas, issues and concerns that inevitably arise, and many of those who have not yet planned. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research - this can not be overemphasized. Read everything you about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to create a little financial success Gourmet Specialty Food Shop by Sharon Fullen, Douglas R. Brown,
* Gourmet to Go: A guide to open and operate a specialty grocery Robert Wemischner
* Specialty Store Retail: How to run store by Carol L. Schroeder rated
* The Wrath ofGrapes: The Coming Wine Industry Shock and how to take advantage of Lewis Perdue
* The area of origin: industry insiders on the manufacture and delivery of a high-end product from the vineyard to the table (in spirits) Aspator Books

There are many resources of free information out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

I hope that helps! I wish you much success and happiness in all your undertakings!

Contact a store near you and request a tour. Check it out and see how they run the place. How do you turn these questions. Friendship with someone who has the good works or a winery. It worked for me. Better information about a company comes from friends who work there, and a few glasses of wine.
